Question about wires and floral tape

Hi ,

I've read the sticky on inserting wires in cakes and I've read some about wrapping wires with floral tape.
So what do you wrap the floral tape in so it doesn't lay on the cake ?
I'm wanting to make a nice arrangement of flowers and leaves for a cake but it would mean some of the vines would be touching the icing. What is your suggestion to wrap the wires in so it is food safe ?
