Hey ya,

I am doing my very first three tier square wedding cake and the bottom layer is going to be the quilted diamond look with sugar pearl balls in betwee each diamond.

I am searching our New Zealand cake decorating supply websites and i have come across two options to give me that effect.

1. A metal diamond cutter with three diamonds in a row, & $39.00nz or

2. A diamond impression plastic square mat that you press onto the cake $12.00nz

The both look good but there is a major price difference, has any one used either or and could recommend the better one of the two. I really dont mind spending more money if the end product is better looking and easier to use. Your opinions about these will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Tina.

The impression mat is all you need to gently show you where the lines should be then you can trace over them with a stitching wheel or a liner tool to make them more noticeable.

Definitely get the impression mat. I have one and love it. Have made 2 cakes in the past week using it.

Hi, please just get the impression mat. I have done this technique more than 25 times, and that is the only thing I have used, perfect every time.
