I've never before actually used whipped icing but I've got someone asking me to make a cake using it. I've previously made a character cake that was furry looking, but I used buttercream. This is what the gal is asking for; is this possible with whipped icing? Also, it'd have fondant eyes and mouth... will the fondant adhere to the whipped icing?
Thanks so much!!
Hi! I've worked with whipped icing quite a bit and fondant will stick to it no problem. Depending on how much oil/butter content your whipped icing has sometimes I find it tends to dry out a bit while it's sitting in the bowl (maybe this is just where I live) so I find I have to stir it a few times. I personally find it's easier to pipe out of a piping bag that buttercream, probably because it's much lighter. Hope this helps
Yes, piping with whipped icing can be done. However, you mention that you'll be doing a furry animal? Is that to say you'll be using the grass tip? I've never used the grass tip with whipped icing, but I would have to wonder if it would work since it's not as stiff as the buttercream you'd typically use for such a job.
thank you so much to both of you!!! Yes, I would be using the grass tip. I too was wondering about the stiffness, or if the whipped icing would hold the shape at all? Like I said, I've never used it before so I have no idea. haha
Thank you so much for all of your help!!!!
