Hi Everyone,
I'm going to try and make a cake for MIL and try brush embroidery..
But i have a few questions-
What consistency is the royal icing?
Do you add piping gel to the royal icing? ( i've read that somewhere)
And What type of brush do you use? ( flat, angled, etc...)
thanks again!

You don't want outline consistency or it won't "bleed" well when you drag it with the brush. I used a consistency thicker than 10 second icing though.

And I used a flat edged brush.

Hi Bridgette, I added some piping gel to my royal icing, the consistency should be that it is firm enough to not spread when piped - pipes a line of icing, then use a flat edged brush or small brush that has been dipped in water but use some kitchen paper to draw out most of the moisture so that the brush is just damp and draw/pull the icing in with the brush, I also found that if you pipe over your original piping outline (double pipe) it is easier to draw the icing in. Have a look at my own wedding cake in my pics, the design is a lace veil over three stacked tiers. HTH icon_smile.gif
