If you are talking about the Wilton ball pan, I believe the instructions say it takes 4.5 cups of batter for both halves, so I use one cake mix. And for servings, about 10.

I use one (doctored) cake mix for the ball pan - half the batter in each half of the pan. Never had an issue with that.
