I'm going to be making a gumpaste shoe cake in a few weeks. I'd like to make the shoe look like her favorite pair, which are black with sheer stripes - so about 1" stripes of alternating matte black, sheer black, matte black, etc. I wanted to use disco dust for the sheer sections (since obviously I can't do sheer gumpaste!). Any suggestions on how to get nice, crisp stripes? I'm going to make the shoe out of black gumpaste and let it dry thoroughly, then I was thinking I could mark off the stripes using a very low-tack paint like painter's tape. I could carefully dampen and dust the shoe, then carefully remove the tape. Has anyone tried this? Will the tape damage the gumpaste? Are there other ways to get very crisp sharp edges?
Thanks for any advice!
