Make dark chocolate buttercream and add black food coloring. If you start with chocolate, you wouldn't need so much black, but if you don't then you'll need a lot and the taste of your buttercream will change due to lots of black gel coloring. Good luck.

Americolor makes "super black". Get it - it doesn't take alot to get a good black color and won't change the flavor of the buttercream. Their "super red" however - not the same story. It tastes funky.

black buttercream will stain teeth! I have made it once with lots of gel coloring. It looked cool but everyone had black teeth! If you are able, use black fondant or airbrush the fondant black.

I do it like solascakes. I start with very dark chocolate buttercream, then add Americolor Super Black and it only takes a little to get a good deep black. And it tastes like chocolate.

I actually keep the leftovers in a small container in the freezer. That way when I need just a little black for eyes or whatever I don't have to make it every time. And because I don't always have dark chocolate buttercream on hand.

Good Luck!

You could try spraying it black with Wilton food color spray.
