I entered 3 cupcake recipes in the Austin Cake Show this past weekend. I won 2nd place with one of the flavors in the cupcake category, and Best of Tasting for the entire tasting competition (inclusive of all the tasting categories) for another one. I have no idea which flavor won what because the photo they used was the same cupcake for both awards. I won a total of $650 in King Arthur Flour gift cards, and my recipe will be published in their monthly magazine. I also have a trophy of some sort coming too.

The reason I don't know about some of this is because after I got the 2nd place award I slipped out to help pack up our vendor booth. We had to get some items back to the rental place by a certain time. I had no idea that there was a Best Of classification. The show finally listed all the winners in a slide show on their site today so I was flipping through to see all the winning cakes. Imagine my surprise when it came to the Best Of awards and there was my name listed as the Best of Tasting competition! I was so excited then mad at myself for not staying for the entire award ceremony. All I could think about was making sure we got the rental equipment back in time so I didn't have to make an additional trip back to Austin the next day. Now it looks like I will be driving there to pick up my other awards next week anyway...LOL! Don't really mind the drive this time icon_biggrin.gif

Congratulations. I would rather win a taste contest than any other aspect of baking. I checked out your site. Our business models have much in common. It's refreshing to see prices of desserts reflective of the time and quality that they deserve. Hopefully the publicity of your win will take your business to another level. You obviously deserve it.

I will definitely be back next year, have to defend my title...LOL! Might have time to actually do my showcake for once. This is the second year I had to scratch from that competition due to time issues. This year my husband and I got a gig to do choreography and wardrobe for an industrial in San Antonio and the production was the Thursday before the cake show. We were hired second week of Feb so we had exactly 2 weeks to audition, rehearse, and wardrobe 7 dancers and have them performance ready for an event that had 1500 people in attendance. I had no sleep for 72 hours prior to the cake show. To top it off, my cupcake company had a booth at the show so I got 4 hours sleep Thursday afternoon then had to make my competition entries, and 500 cupcakes for the event. I slept from Sunday after the cake show at 6:30, all day Monday, until Tuesday morning at 7am after the cake show, and even had my assistant sub my dance classes Monday night for me. But, the rewards from each event was just too great to pass up. I would do it again in a heartbeat!
