I just did a quick practice run on a cookie for my brother's upcoming wedding. He wants a cookie similar to this one:

I painted gold luster dust onto the letter, and it has a yellow/gold look to it. I emailed a picture to my brother, and he asked if I could make the letter darker, like the picture I linked to above. Do you know what I could use to get that effect? Do you think it's a bronze color? I just want to make sure whatever it is, is edible. I keep reading about some gold paints for cakes that aren't edible.

Thanks for any suggestions you can give me.

To me it looks like the letter was done using black RI and then had the gold done on top of the black without covering it entirely. I wish I could blow up the photo to see it better, but that's what it looks like to me.

It does kind of look like a bronze. You can also try adding some brown airbrush color (just a little) to your gold luster dust to get the bronze look.

Thank you so much for your suggestions! I'm excited to try them out. Both sound like they will work. Thanks again!

I brushed gold over dark brown modeling chocolate to get this metallic color. I mixed the gold with lemon extract.

I agree. I don't think it looks bronze. There is definitely a black base writing with gold highlights.

I experimented last night. I tried dark brown royal icing and black royal icing, and painted both with gold luster dust. I think I like the look of the brown better with the green color I am using as the background.

Carmijok, do you remember what brand of luster dust you used? I like the metallic look on your cake. The whole cake is very pretty.

Thank you, everyone, for your help.
