How to..Carnival/Circus Cake

Hi Everyone.

How were the flags and poles made for this cake (and the many others like it)? I can't figure out what the flags are hanging on that provides the strength to hold them but the flexibility for draping. TIA!

It looks like it may be dowels just pushed all the way through the length of the cake. Its fondant so the poles should be stiff enough in the cake and fondant to hold up those little banners, IMO. I could be wrong but thats how I would do it. HTH

I agree with kisamarie the poles look like dowels, and I would say that the flags are hanging on a simple piece of rope1
