I am baking and decorating a wedding cake for my brother and my future sister in law. I am also in the wedding party. This is going to be my first large cake. To be honest I am little nervous. How far in advance can I bake the cake and it still be good? How do I store it? How about decorating it? Its going to be six tiers. So I was thinking about transporting them in separate pieces and then decorating them when Im put them together when I drop it of. The design is pretty simple. Just a large ribbon around the bottom of each tier, some butter cream shell design along the edge of each tier and scattered large bows (one on each tier) What would be the best approach to getting it all there, and set up before i have to be at the ceremony? The ceremony and the reception arent at the same place. The reception is going to be at a rented fire hall. Any tips would be extremely helpful

You can bake a couple of weeks ahead and freeze the tiers. You can certainly stack the bottom 2-3 tiers if you can lift it. Then place the others tiers onsite and put the ribbon and bows on.

MOST IMPORTANT, IMO, is to use SPS.

But honestly, I don't know how you're gong to be in the wedding party and assemble the cake at the firehouse facility. They'll have to let you in really early. And then you'll have to work around hair and makeup appointments.
