Do you ever have people request tasting samples of cookies? If so, How many samples do you give, and do you just eat the cost in hopes that you will get the order?

What size cakes do you make (and how many different flavors) for a tasting? I have only done one official tasting so far, (most of my orders come from word-of-mouth and they do not ask for a tasting first). I made two flavors and they were tiny little individual cakes, maybe twice the size of a cupcake. The clients seemed happy, but I wondered if this was standard or if I should be doing something more.

Hi, I don't make and sell cookies but I've discovered that cupcakes make a great "tasting" cake.
If you ever have left over batter make a few cupcakes, wrap with plastic wrap and then with aluminum foil and freeze; then when you need cake for a sample take out and defrost any amount you may need. I will put a few fillings on a plate with the iced cupcakes and find this an easy way to make sample cakes. I guess you could do the same with cookies if you make a variety very often.

Bakeries have a long-standing custom for wedding cake tastings. Caterers may sample out their items to clients for the menu selection. If you're looking for new wholesale accounts, definitely make up a sample box. But for most other situations people can purchase their samples. Really, you don't need to give samples for everything.
