Top Edge Of Buttercream Buldging - Help Please!
Decorating By nanascakes Updated 26 Feb 2012 , 9:17pm by beck60
Recently the top edge of my buttercream cakes have an overhang bulge around the top edge after I finish icing them. I have watched Sugarshack's video, and basically use the technique she teaches. I don't have a problem with the middle bulge, just the top edge. Has anyone found a way to prevent this from happening? Any ideas would be very appreciated!
That's weird, if you fill and ice the middle and top the same way, you would think they would behave the same way
I too have a bulge around the top. I hope someone can answer this for you on how to fix it.
If you are using Sharon's method, probably what is happening is when you are smoothing the icing on the top of your cake, you are applying too much pressure. After smoothing the top do you do the step of using your smoother and a sheet of paper to go lightly around the side of the cake and gently work the edge back up?
It just happens when I pipe a boarder around the top of the cake. I just thought maybe it was from the weight of the border causing it and I don't know what to do to stop that from happening.
