My Grandmas birthday is coming up and I would like to make her a tea-pot cake. In the past any cakes I have made for my Grandparents they refuse to cut into and they sit out in their lounge until the cake starts to take on a droopy look. I thought it might be nice to actually give my Grandma one she could keep that won't go off. What is my best option here? Has anyone done this with a teapot cake? Will I have to carve styrofoam to do this or do I have other options here?
Thanks so much for all your help! I love this site and all the helpful hints you all provide.
I love to make a keep sake tier for some of the cakes I do... I usually use a small dummy cake, maybe a 6 inch round, and leave the decorations that were on the cake, with the recipient!!
rice krispies seem to be indestructable with it comes to making special shapes... I had a rice krispie soccer ball that lasted over two years before my son would let me throw it out... it was still 100% intact when we threw it out!! that might work for carving a tea pot!!

I made my daughter a dog out of RKT and it's been a little over a year, and still looks like the day I made it.
I think using RKT is a good way to go
Thats great! Thank you both of you. I wasn't sure how long RKT would last. Making the teapot from it will be a bit easier as well I think.
I have a photo on my photo stream of the soccer ball I made out of rice krispies...my son is 18 years old, and he didn't want me to throw it away..... so, he took it outside, and slammed it on the pavement to see what the inside looked like..... it looked the same as the day I made it!!!
I am so happy I came across this forum. I once started a forum on RKT and got one response saying they will last 2 wks. I went thru hell yesterday trying to curve a dress shape dummy cake. Am working on some display cakes and was already thinking of using cake for the other sculptured designs and just take photos. This is going to help me so much! Thanx you!
