Here's my dilema:
I have been an "at home" cake decorator for many years and also an experienced Food Service Manager for going on 10 years. I am finally able to merge the two into a position where I manage a speciality coffee and bake shop. We do simple cupcakes, decorated Giant cookies, cookies and decorated sugar cookies. I have a staff of about 8 with half of these being persons with disabilities as we are a training program.

My problem is finding the best way to store all our pastry bags, couplers and tips without destroying them. It seems every time I reach into the box to get out a bag or tip they are smashed, put away wet or dirty or even lost in the process of cleaning. I don't have this problem at home since I'm basically the only one doing the clean up but it is awful at the store with several persons including those with disabilities doing multiple jobs on two shifts!

What are some of the creative ways everyone here stores their equipment? I've tried the simple Wilton tip boxes, which get easily broke. I've tried "tool-boxes" which items just get tossed into and smashed or disorganized. Help! How do others store their stuff?? icon_cry.gif

Here is a link to pictures of my new studio. They overlap a little, but its a walk around of the room. I only have 230sq ft so I have to be creative in storage.

Very Nice! My shop also have very limited space, as we are located in the food court of a mall so storage is very tight. I am going to look for one of those 10 drawer towers! That may just help us out, especially on wheels so we can move around & out of the way when needed! Thanks!

If you're looking for a way to dry things after they're washed you could get one of these racks. They're good because they keep the bags open while they're drying. Once they dry you can put them in a drawer holder somewhere. http://www.debuyer.com/product.php?id=503&cat=50&lang=ENG

The drawer carts are at Sam's Club for $30.

I made a really cute drying rack for my icing bags by drilling holes into a painted 1x4 and sticking plastic spoons (big spoons, like the wood ones) into it. I hung it above the sink so it drips into there without taking up any counter or drainboard space. Sorry I dont have a pic. I made it after I posted the album. I could email you one though

You could just use a wooden peg coat rack that mounts on the wall, too.

I use a nut and bolt type organizer that you would get at a hardware store with lots of little drawers in it. I have them all seperated and labeled for all of my couplers, tips, mini light bulbs for cakes, just all the little gadgets that can get easily lost and ruined. It hangs right on my wall so its up out of the way and easy to access.
