Someone has asked me to do a 3D paint can cake on top of a sheet cake. I am not a fondant person. I actually hate using it to cover things. What do you think is the best way to do this paint can? I am planning on using 3 (6") rounds for the size. Would you cover it from the top? Or would you cut a sheet of fondant in the shape of the label to wrap around? Any advice is appreciated!
I was toying with the idea of an edible image for the wording. I'm just not sure if it will be big enough to cover the whole can.
I'm actually terrified of the handle too. LOL
Hi,
You could cover it either way but, I would do it in a sheet and wrap. Only bc i would want to get a lil lip around the top of the cake to make it look mor realistic, like the top of a real paint can. Then cover the top in grey fondant and paint it silver with silver dust n vodka or lemon extract.
The edible image would be awesome. U just have to get the size of the lettering just right and it will work fine.
For the handle, you could use a 50/50 mixture (fondant n gumpaste) make the handle attachments with a lil indentation/hole for the handle to fit in. If you have a clay extruder, use it to make the handle, if not just roll a small log out. If you have a can in the cupboard the size of the paint can that yr making, Lay it down on its size, cover with a piece of wax paper dusted lightly with cornstach and drape yr log over it but on a slope (like the handle in yr pic). Once dry, very carefullt attach with lil royal icing in blk (white will show) or melted chocolate.
