Hello I was just wondering if anyone had any tips or tricks to get organized and set up a timeline for cakes. I am such a procrastinator and always wait till the last minute working on cakes...which means I'm up all night finishing them...I also work, go to college, and have a 4 year old daughter who loves to try to "help" me...I have no clue where to begin to set up a smooth schedule to keep everything in order lol...thanks for the help in advance and sorry if this is a little hard to read my little one keeps popping up in my face to show me her play-dough figures lol.

For me, I have a calendar that I am able to look at all day (it sits on my desk that I'm at 8hrs a day). I write down all the little details I want/need to get scheduled. That way, I have a constant reminder of what needs to get done either that day, the next day, a week from today, etc. Also, if I look at each day, instead of the WHOLE project, it gets a little less intimidating. For example, if I see that Wednesday I need to color fondant, its much more manageable than "OMG its Friday night and I need to color fondant, frost my cakes, make figurines, bla bla bla....". My suggestion would be to get a calendar, write down when things need to get done, and then put it in a place where you're able to look at it all the time!!

Thanks! I have a planner and a dry erase calendar to write things down on but my problem is I'll look at it and go "OK I'll get started on that after class/work/laundry et"....and then before I know it it's 11pm and I'm beyond exhausted. Guess I just need to buckle down and get it together lol...

I'm such a procrastinator too! I only have the job to distract me, no children or school so I shouldn't have any excuses, but alas, none of my cakes are ever on time, even after staying up all night to work on them! It's a good thing I'm just a hobby baker and I have such understanding family and friends lol! Good luck!!

I do the exact same thing as abchambers. I have a large calendar on my fridge and when I wake up it is the first thing I see while getting the milk for my coffee. I break everything down into small jobs too. It is overwhelming to try and accomplish everything at once, while still maintaining your home, work and children.

Write everything down and like Nike says "Just Do It" Don't just think about it.

Good Luck.
