Making Mums for a cake??

Hi Lady's I need some advice about this mum that I made for a cake. My husband says it doesn't look like a mum. I am trying to make a spider mum. Have searched online and some of the one on line are not better looking then mine. The only difference is theirs has thick petals. Please be honest and give any help you can.

It is a nice looking flower, but I can see why he says it doesn't look like a mum. If I am not mistaken, spider mums have really narrow petals. If the petals were a lot narrower, I think it would be a lot more representative of what you want. I haven't made flowers before since this is a new hobby for me so I can't help with technique. Hopefully somebody can chime in with a technique to get you what you want.

To make spider mums use tip 233 and pipe it about the same as you did that one.
I like to start w/ 1/2 a marshmallow as the base. It makes a big spider mumicon_smile.gif Pipe the strings all around the bottom; move up to the top of the marshmallow and pipe again, particially covering the previous ones. This should cover the MM completely except for a hole at the top. Here you pipe one set of standup strings by holding the tip & bag straight up & down; make a quick squeeze and let up as you pull your hand straight up and away.

It's very pretty.

Do you have any daisy cutters? Like the PP said, mums have much narrower petals. I made this one with 4 different sized daisy cutters. It was created with layers of graduated sizes.
