wedding cake pricing

Hi Everyone,

Just quick question, when pricing a wedding cake, the servings usually only includes the layers feeding the guest...do you guys jut include the anniversary top layers with the pricing serving, or do you do a separate charge for it, aside from the servings for the cake?

From previous responses to this type of question, most folks charge for each tier based on the servings (or whatever pricing structure you already have). So the cake is priced as a whole. What the celebrant chooses to do with whichever tier is up to him/her. If they need to feed 100 people then they order an amount to feed 100 AND the extra tier they want to keep.

Ask the customer if they want to save the top tier. If yes, explain the cake needs to be somewhat larger to compensate for the number of servings in the smaller tier. You can give them two prices and let them decide.

For me they pay for every serving of cake they are getting. If they want to keep the a tier for later use that is up to them. I just tell them the cake serves this many with the top and that many with out the top.

I think part of it also depends on how many servings they need, and how close you can get to it with the different tier sizes.

I'll be doing the same as other suggested. I'll be counting each and every serving of the cake, even the top tier. I'll just inform the customer that this is what I do and if they are saving a tier, they need to account for that in their servings...
