I would have to say, YES!! I've taken them all and learned a lot. The new classes are really easy to follow and you learn a lot of decorating techniques.

I might be a little bias too because I now teach the same classes. Most of the instructors are very helpful and love what they do!!

I signed up for the first class at my local Micheal's, and for the first class all we learned how to do was make stars (stars are no that hard to make and I got it so I wish we moved on to something else), the teacher was not all that interested in being there and it was really quite disappointing, she did not really answer any questions. So my experience was not a good one, so I got my money back and they let me keep the book. I hope you experience is better then mine.

Seems like it's really dependent on the instructor. Mine will be at a Michael's too so here's hoping it's good!! I really am looking forward to learning. Thanks for the help!

I didnt know how to decorate cakes before i took the classes. I took all 3 courses and it really taught me a lot. I got done with classes June of last year. You can check out my cakes to see my progress. it really gave me the push and confidence to decorate cakes.

I took all the courses and found them to be extremely helpful. It's definitely worth it since they are relatively inexpensive.

I'm in the class right now also! Lesson 2 is on Monday and I am learning stuff but I find that I'm a bit more advanced than the others in the class. Like, I know what you use a dough scraper/buttercream scraper for. And I was embarrassed at the "OOOOHHH's" that he received when he started icing the cake with the offset spatula. But I am enjoying the class. But I do have a question for some of you (OP, so sorry to jack your thread, i just didn't want to start a brand new one. Hope you don't mind )

So I'm on Lesson one and we didn't have enough time to get to the cookie decorating and while my teacher is an absolute doll and I did learn some new stuff, I'm not feeling too optimistic. So, my question is: for you ladies who went into the classes knowing more than the basics about cake decorating (I can bake a cake, ice a cake (as basically as possible), and I'm okay with a pastry bag) did you end up liking your classes or did you feel a little shafted? After Lesson 1, I'm honestly feeling a little shafted but I can't help but believe that it will get better.

Honestly I have learned so much from this list and watching videos that I definitely felt shafted. I took class 2 without taking class1. I won't be taking anymore classes.
I can spend that money on Sharon Zambito's videos and get so much more! Just my opinion.

That's a little what I'm afraid of. I'm gonna stick it out for class 2 and if I end up not learning much, I'm probably going to feel upset about it. When I sat in class one and he started with "A cake is composed of flour, sugar, eggs, etc" I was a little nervous.

I felt the same way in class 2. Good luck in your class. Hope it goes better than your first.

I have been decorating for 18 yrs. I have been teaching Wilton for 6 1/2 yrs. I only talk about baking for just a few minutes. This is a decorating class, not a baking class. I have 12 students now, that doesn,t know anything. That is the kind of class i like to teach. For the ones that already know before they come in, i tell them that this is a basic class and if they are bored, they can definetly get their money back. We have to teach class by class, not go on to the next one before we are suppose to. I tell them about cake central, and lots of other sites to go on and learn. I am way beyond Wilton, but i enjoy teaching Wilton to the ones that don,t know. If i hadn,t taken a Wilton couse, i wouldn,t be where i am today. Of course there are so many out there on youtube, etc. teaching it also. It wasn,t like that 18 yrs. ago when i was taking classes. Wilton will give you the basics to go on to bigger and better things. Some of the students have never even baked a cake, much less know how to ice it. lol!!! It is fun for me to see them progress.

I have taken all the classes several time but enjoy going back. I always learn something new either from the instructor or the other students. It's a chance to talk about cakes with others who enjoy the same thing.

Thanks everyone!! I will definitely be taking the classes. I went today and tried to sign up but they said the schedule for March wasn't out yet, even though it was on their web site. Ohh well. I'll just call back tomorrow.
