Hi everyone!

I'm working on a Valentine's Day cake for a couple having a small dinner party. Tonight I've been working on a HUGE sugar rose which will cover the entire top of the cake. I was glad that I took a break to come do this 'cause my fingers hurt from the ball tool.

What is everyone else doing this weekend?

I'm working on a candy cake. Nice and easy tonight. All the decorations are candy. They didn't want anything replicated in fondant... They dropped off a giant bag of candy

Haven't been here for awhile. I delivered and set up a cookie table for a small concert tonight. I have a birthday cake for tomorrow that is ready for pick up tomorrow.

First Valentine's weekend in my own shop! Working on lots of party and shower cakes, Valentine cookies and cupcakes, as well as a huge sandcastle wedding cake for Saturday evening. Going to be a looooong night! icon_smile.gif

Yay, StaceyC3! Your own shop AND a busy holiday! Woo hoo!

I was going to start baking tonight. I have 5 recipes to test over the next week. There's got to be one out there I like!
However, I'm just not feeling the bake love tonight so I think I'll put the butter away and start tomorrow instead.

I'm also trying to find Chefmaster no fade purple coloring without paying as much for the shipping as for the product. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I'm just experimenting tonight. I made this yellow cake recipe earlier. I froze the 2 - 6in cakes and ate the few cupcakes icon_redface.gif . I made Italian meringue buttercream for the first time. Definitely not as sweet as American buttercream. Now I have some cupcakes in the oven so I can use my icing. I'll take them with me to the beauty shop tomorrow so I don't eat them all icon_smile.gif.

mplaid..that's right..it's candy cake this week! What kind of candies? All hard candy?

cheatize..have you tried shopbakersnook? I have no idea if they have it but I've been very happy with their service.

Sounds like everyone is fairly busy! That's Cool!

Lolipops, gobstoppers, spree, gumballs, m&ms, skittles... a little bit of everything.

They don't even care whats on it as long as its lots of candy.

My favorite kind of customer!

1 tier is for thier son
1 tier is for thier daughter.

For the girls tier I made flowers out of all sorts of candy. I'm loving it.
I'll post pics tomorrow

catharper: yes, I looked. They don't carry it in no fade. icon_sad.gif

Is there a difference between Parrish Magic Line and Magic Line cake pans? Both the blocked place and Global Sugar Art sell Magic Line pans for much less than Amazon sells the Parrish Magic Line.

Geez, this should not be this hard. icon_smile.gif

OOooooo LOVE the sound of the candy cake! Can't wait to see photos.

Cheatize...I have no idea if they are the same line or not...huh. No, it shouldn't be so hard.

Urgh. I think I'm just going to worry about pans later and just order coloring. At least the shipping doesn't double if you buy more than one.

I can imagine all sorts of shapes and such to make with hard candy. I just can't imagine biting into it. Do you suppose they pick off the candy and eat it separately?

I'm having a problem with pans tonight too...I have a wedding later this year that needs a 6 inch hex pan...apparently Wilton is the only maker and you have to buy a set to get it. I don't like Wilton pans and I don't want to buy a whole set for the smallest pan. So it looks like I'll have to get a form instead and cut the layers out of sheet cakes. Not terribly happy with that but it appears I have no choice.

As for the candy cake..yup, they will pick off the candy and eat the cake. The kids, of course, will save the candy to eat but the grown ups will throw it away.

I have to admit that I did sorta stear a bride away from a M&M covered cake due to the difficulty of the eating. She ended up with a very elegant cake which was close to the first style she fell in love with in the beginning before the M&M idea. Her mom privately asked my opinion and I said that a candy cake being served at a wedding would end up with piles of candy on the plates at the end with very few people eating more than a few of the M&M's on their pieces and picking the rest off. The Mom was appalled at the idea of her guests picking candy off their cake and reminded her daughter of the other cake...the one we ended up going with in the end.

BUT, I have to say I love the way they look and at a kids birthday I think it's a great idea...simply because the kids will love it and eat the candy.

If you lived closer, I'd let you borrow mine 'cause you know I bought all those sets when I first started. lol

Can't you make a cardboard template instead of buying a form?

Actually I'm working that way this weekend. The cake I'm working on is a 6 inch hex that I used my styrofoam dummy as my template<G>...It was a pain in the butt but I may well do the same thing again.

I'll warn you: we're having a little snow storm at the moment. Weather forecasters all around are practically in a panic over 2 inches and below zero wind chills. Toss off the flip flops and put on your Uggs. icon_smile.gif

Since I just spent 40 bucks on 4 bottles of color, I think I'll do a Victorian swoon and go to bed now. Happy Caking, Everyone!

I'll have to call my sister, who also lives in Ohio, and see how she is tomorrow! Thanx for the heads up. It was 70 here today in Northern California but we are supposed to get rain tomorrow. I sure hope so, we need it. I don't deliver my order till Monday afternoon so I won't finish it till Sunday...so I have time for the weather to clear back up.
