After seeing that so many people use Kitchenaids, I saved up and finally took delivery of one less than a month ago. I've only used it four times and have treated it with kid gloves, but I have already noticed two little paint chips. In the UK these mixers are very expensive (£400+), so I am horrified that my beautiful machine already has chips, particularly when I can't think of anything that could have caused it (it's not been subjected to any knocks, drops etc).

Aside from the aesthetics and disappointment that such an expensive machine should chip so easily, I'm also worried that where the metal is exposed, it will start to rust when I wipe it over.

Is it normal for Kitchenaid stand mixers to chip so easily or so quickly? Will the metal start to go rusty? Does Kitchenaid's warranty cover defective paint coverings?

I have two one, I have had for years and the newer one about 1 year and neither of them has any chips.

I have a Kitchenaid Accolade for a 4 years and my paddle attachment has a couple of chips, my teacher too. It will not rust. I think it happens when the paddle rubs along the bowl too hard. I keep adjusting it. I use it a lot so I guess the constant use vibrates the setting, I don't know. If that is where you're chip is don't worry about it, mine has been like that for a couple years. But adjust machine so the paddle doesn't scrape the bottom of the bowl. It will tell you how in the instruction book.

But if you mean the machine has chipped paint, that isn't normal. Mine is still perfect, aside from the paddle attachment. LOL

Mine doesn't have chips, either. I've had it for about 3 years.

I've had my mixer for 6 or 7 years, moved house 4 times during those years, and the mixer itself doesn't have any chips. The attachments have a few chips, no rusting problems though.

I have a much older KA that does have chips in the paint, but we're talking maybe 50 years old.
