Brilliant - I loved it. I always knew I was onto a looser when someone started the conversation with 'Could you just knock me up a cake'. Answer - "Nope. Go to the supermarket - that is where you get cakes that are thrown together - not from me!!! " I always knew this expression meant - I will have one of your superb totally handmade creations, never been seen before, and I want to pay about the cost of a donut for it!

dsilvest~~ HYSTERICAL!

I've been hobby baking for 2 years now (started at the Wilton courses at Michaels, lol ). I worked for 35 years as a salesperson and find all the CC posts about customers with unrealistic demands very entertaining.

People wonder why I laugh when they say, "Your cakes are gorgeous! You should sell them and make lots of money!". HA HA HA! Fat chance. I just smile and say that I put in 35 years, this is my hobby and I'm not about to ruin my fun for far, far too little money.

By the way, since I AM a hobby baker, I'm going to put this on my site and give others a chuckle! Thanks for posting this.

I am currently working with a bride that needs to see this. Because of who she is....semi important in some realms, she has been given her catering, most of her honeymoon in Europe and she thinks that I am going to fork over a cake. WRONG! I gave her my last price and I am really hoping that she lets me know that she has found someone else who is going to donate her cake. I am not losing any sleep...!

oh my goodness I just laughed so hard my daughter came out of her room and asked what was so funny lol...I'm just starting out and I've had people ask why so much when they can get a cake from walmart for $30?!?!?
