Fondant Crinkling Issue When Cut With Cricut

Okay so I'm still a newbie and I just got a cricut cake for Christmas which I love since I was cutting everything by hand before. icon_eek.gif Anyways, it's hard to explain but when I cut fondant with it, it's almost like the very top layer of fondant has dried and the edges get crinkled sometimes, almost like there is a skin in there. I'm using satin ice and I don't currently add tylose or gumpaste to it partly because I haven't seen a need. I'm not freezing my fondant on the mat before cutting and I've tried both slow and medium cutting speed with no difference. I know it could be any number of those things but I'm at a loss as to where to start. I hate having to hand smooth all the edges of my cut projects and smooth out the little wrinkles. Anyone else have this issue and find a fix for it?

I use my cricut all the time without those issues. I have never tried it with satin ice, but MMF works great. I do add tylose or gumpaste to it to help it dry a little faster. I roll it out on the cutting mat, and let it sit for 5 to 10 minutes. I get nice smooth cuts. I really think the tylose of gumpaste makes all the difference.

I really think the difference is that it dries faster. The crinkley edges are when the top dries, but underneath is still very moist and stretchy. When it dries a little all the way through and there is less stretch underneath, causing less pulling and messing up the edges.

I just got my Cricut over the weekend as a bday gift from my family. I tried using it the other day with my MMF. It did not cut smoothly. If I add the powder to it will it help? I was not aware of letting it sit either. I was excited when I got it but now IDK. I don't want to spend money on the sugar sheets. It gets expensive. I like the taste of MMF and would like to use this instead. If you have any tips or anything please let me know. Thanks in advance! icon_confused.gif

Yes, the powder will help. Letting it set and dry a little is ESSENTIAL. There is a learning curve, don't give up just yet icon_biggrin.gif

i find it does this when it is too thick, try rolling it just a bit more.
