I am new to cake decorating and just attempted making MMF for the first time. It seemed too sticky and difficult to work with (compared to store bought Wilton fondant which I have used in the past). Any tips to making great tasting homemade fondant? Which recipe(s) are the best to work with?

Could be the recipe you used. How much water did you use? Did you let it rest overnight? I think that the brand of marshmallow could have an effect because I used a different kind once & had a little issue with the fondant.

i used the wilton recipe. I think in all I ended up using 5 tbsp of water and it was still tearing (which according to the recipe meant it needed more water) but yet it is sticky. I let it rest for 2 days....I used kraft brand marshmallows.

I usually use less water than that. 2 tbsps of water & 1 tbsp of corn syrup---- I have also recently gotten "the mat" and it is so much easier to roll out the fondant. Much easier than the mat I use to use. Don't give up on the MMF. Try using store brand marshmallows. It could be my imagination but I think I liked the consistency better when I used them.

Thank you! I will definately try again. Did you ever have success using it for modeling with, or just covering cakes?

I actually use the leftovers for my flowers & figurines. I do mix it with gum paste. It seems softer than the Wilton fondant but everything comes out ok.

My favorite is Michele Foster's Fondant. So yummy and turns out great every time.

Ditto on Michele Foster's Recipe (I use the updated version). Comes out perfect every time, colors well, and is super delicious. Once you've tried it, there is no going back to any other homemade fondant recipe!
