I was asked to make 35 - 8 inch cakes either white cake with cream cheese filling or red velvet with cream cheese filling all of the cakes will have ribbon around the bottom and they will also be covered in White fondant. So how much is a reasonable price for this?

We would charge $2590 for this, $74 per cake. This is including ingredients, labor, overhead, and commercial kitchen rent (we are in CA, where cakes have to be made in a licensed and inspected kitchen to be legally sold).

My price is $45 each so $1575 here, delivery/ set up would be extra. I am a licensed home business in NC if that helps in you price comparison.

i have heard many many times...individual cakes are a LOT of work. you need the extra time for each cake and space to store them, plus the time to deliver all of them with the space to deliver them! just from what i hear because i would never do it unless i had a whole bunch of people to help

If you are a small batch shop or home bakery and don't have any other employees, keep in mind that your cost for each cake will be considerably higher, since you'll need to find, train, and pay for temporary help as well as paying social security/medicare/unemployment taxes for them and taking out a worker's comp policy. Also, if you have a home bakery, some states do not allow you to hire employees from outside the home.

$72 per cake for a total of $2520, and that is the starting cost. The price goes up if I have to bring in additional help.
There are times when I think I can help. Other times I think, given an already shallow gene pool, I am doing more for humanity by just letting go...

They definitely will take you much longer than you think!
And as was mentioned above, you need *lots and lots!* of space for that many cakes.
Not only work space but space for delivering. Been there, done that - lots of work.
I did 9"x2" heart cakes - don't remember now exactly how many - I think like 20-25 and what a hassle to deliver. We built a shelf to elevate some over the layer on the floor in the back of the SUV, lined it w/non-slip rubber & still have to take a 2nd vehicle. Delivery was some 20-30 miles up the mtn.
