Anyone have a good sifter?

I find it incredible that I cannot find a decent sifter. I had a metal one like the one we had growing up -- the kind that you squeeze the handle. The metal spring broke after about 6 months. (My mother is still using hers, after 40 years!)

Then I bought a battery operated one from Amazon for $20. That was just a total waste of money. After working for a minute or two, the power would stop and I would just have to hit the side.

My husband picked up a Cuisipro Scoop and Sift for me and paid about $15. It's ridiculous! You sift by squeezing the handle, but the powdered sugar flies out the top! I have to put a piece of foil on it to keep the sugar in.

I am so mad that I've spent so much money and have yet to find a good sifter. Does anyone have a great one? I'm so frustrated!! ('icon_cry.gif')

I just use a large stainless steel strainer that I got from walmart. Yep, I bought the handle press sifter too and it was a pain on my hands to sift. Much easier and quicker with the strainer,

I also use a large stainless steel strainer. I have a handle press sifter somewhere in the house but I never use it. It is so much easier with the strainer.

I also use a stainless steel strainer (like a screen). I bought a set of 3 and I love them. My sifter got donated away, it was a pain in my #$$. I Hated it.

Buy a good strainer. You will love it. Makes quick and easy work of sifting.

I use one of the old type ones that you crank, But i like the strainer idea too!!

I use a large strainer also.

I use the Wilton flour sifter and love it. It has a cover for the top and the handle is a crank style which I find much easier on my hands.

I use a $5 strainer from Wal Mart. Those squeeze handle ones suck!

Well, I think I'm going to Walmart tomorrow to buy a strainer.

Do you shake it back and forth, or just kinda knock it a bit?

I tap the rim of my strainer against the palm of my hand, works like a charm. icon_smile.gif

Years ago I used to use the hand cranked sifter and my hands got so tired. Then, like the other posters said, I lit onto using the wire mesh bowl strainers. I have a lot of different sizes all the way from sifting one cup to sifted 2 lbs. at one whack. Will never go back to the hand ones! Just make sure to hand wash and carefully dry the strainers so that they last a long time.

I shake, tap, or use a silicone whisk to sift in a metal strainer.

I have a large strainer with a bowl that matches the width perfectly. The depth of the bowl is about 4 inches deeper. I "sift" with a large whisk. It takes seconds and no cleanup.
