I want to make a silicone mold of a football facemask, so I can start using chocolate in a mold versus molding by hand in fondant. Any ideas? What is the best product to buy? Any help is greatly appreciated!

costumeczar just blogged about making your own silicone molds. I have done it before and it is fairly easy, but a facemask might be an advanced project. I think she will be blogging about advanced molds soon.

www.makeyourownmolds.com has food-grade silicon mold-making stuff for sale. It is expensive but great for making a mold you'll use againn and again. But, you can also use 'Model Magic', a crayola product - - much cheaper and great if you are only using a mold once. Roll out a glob of the white model magic about 1/2 - 1" thick and large enough to cover the front of the face mask. Form the model magic around the mask and let it set for at least 24 hr. Then remove the actual face mask and let it dry another 24 hrs and you should be good to go.

I saw a question similar to this on here before. Someone said that they use a product from Michael's that was reasonably priced. Even better when you have a coupon. I'll try to find it in my saved ones........
