please help with book cake

Hi everyone can you give me some advice on making a stacked book cake.
A friend has asked me to make a book cake with two mills and boon books stacked at a slight angle.i have not made a book cake before so would be grateful for any advice.
also on the top cover she would like the image of a couple embracing,i dont have a edible image printer so woundered if the best way to do this would be to paint the picture on to the fondant with food colouring or create a two d image using fondant.thanks in advance for your help

For the image on top, do whatever is easiest. You need to figure out if spending 2 hours meticulously painting the detail on the fondant is cost effective, or whether it would be more time and cost effective to cut it out of fondant for the 2D effect without comprimising on quality. Personally, I would first explore the avenue of ordering an edible image. Some local cake shops may offer that, you could also look into eBay. Tesco may even do it as they print images on cakes, you could always ring your local store.

thanks lisapeps for the links and the great idea about the edible image from tesco,i know my local asda do the cakes will give them a call
