I ordered this cake air brush system from amazon.com: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B002QRWWH4/?tag=cakecentral-20

It has virtuallly no instructions and when I attempted to use it tonight, I spent three hours and ended up in frustration. It blows air, but at first I couldn't get it to blow food color. Finally after some tinkering it seemed to "work" but no matter what I did I got splatter. When I try to make dots it just looks like a paint "splash." I tried all sorts of knobs and loosening/tightening everything. I then took the whole thing apart and put it back together and now it is back to blowing just air. Is this a defective unit or pilot error? I am debating going to Michael's Craft store and buying the Duff one to try tomorrow to see if it is any better. The problem is I have a cake to do this weekenbd (a graffiti cake, no less!) and I really wanted to use an airbrush for it and don't have time to order another online.

In general I anticipate using it for drawing names (so lines without splatter are important) general covering of fondant with color and maybe trying some "scene" background to detail with frosting. Will either of these systems work for that? I don't really want to shell out $250 for the Kopycake one and don't know if I could find one to buy in person anyway.

Advice???

I have this airbrush but only got it for Christmas so haven't played with it much but I do know I had the same problem- just blowing air. What you have to do is unscrew the little valve knob on the bit where it that connects to the compressor- this valve controls the PSI . Hope this helps.
