Okay, I have a question, I have been looking to buy a cricut cake, then heard about the silhouette cameo.I know I would have to get a special blade for it, but my question is does it just cut gumpaste?? I really want something that cuts fondant and gumpaste. So I don't know if I want to sink 350.00 into the cameo cake, although I really want one..I like the fact that you don't have to buy cartragies..I have the first cricut and only have three cartragies because they are so flipping expensive.. icon_smile.gif

It will cut fondant with tylose added. Straight fondant doesn't cut well with any of the cutters. I've switched to using icingimages premium frosting sheets. So much easier and no mixing anything.

I have the Cricut and Cameo. I only use my Cameo because it just cuts better and I don't have to worry about cartridges. You can print an image on an icing sheet and cut it out with the Cameo. You can't do that with a Cricut. It may be expensive, but worth every penny. I save so much decorating time, I can cut out a lot of designs ahead of time.

If your choosing between the Cricut and the Cameo...GO for the Cameo hands down. There is more help out there for it. Linda McClure is a great source and since she pretty much pioneered it, she has the most expertise and longevity. Plus because it works with your computer, there are no cartrdiges so while your investment is larger now, over time it will save you a bunch of money.

Now if you are asking if you should spend the money at all, that is totally different. Cutters are great machines. THey can be used for more than just the Icing Sheets, Gum Paste, Fondant and Chocopan, you can also cut paper with them. What that means is you can design your own cupcake wrappers for example. If you feel you will use a cutter, you will find that it really does save a lot of time and money and it creates precise beautiful cakes.

I have the Silhouette with Make The Cut added and let me tell you, I had a problem with it the night before a cake show and put in a panic email to Linda, well her wonderful husband called me at 11:00 p.m. and walked me through my problem, ....................when have you seen customer service like that before. My cake was well received at the show and this Winter I vow to hunker down and learn it inside and out.

Linda and Jeff are awesome! Linda will be traveling with us to three shows to demo the silhouette in March. So if you are in Atlantic city, Northern VA or Ocala Florida, you will have the opportunity to see her demo live!

Yes, while you can get it for less money, lindas package comes with her DVD collection and handbook with detailed instructions. She also puts in a special blade for gum paste and samples of cutting sheets as well as some other materials. She does sell the package separately as an ad on if you already have a kit, but her information is awesome
