I have been wanting to try making chocolate ribbons and wrapping cakes in chocolate, but I don't live close to a craft store to buy the acetate sheets that people have said you need to use for this. Is there a different plastic or waxed paper or something that I can use to make these things? Thanks

You can use the shiny side of freezer paper. The only potential problem will be that you can't see through it. Not a problem if you're making bow loops, though.
Or, you can use wax paper. Problem with that is it can be rather flimsy. I've used it many times. Like anything else, it takes practice.

Transparency sheets might be too stiff for bow loops. I'm not sure as I haven't seen a transparency sheet in years.
But I guarantee they are too short for wrapping a cake.
