cakes they could share. A friend of mine has requested a lilac and dark purple Quince cake and I need some ideas. She wants something shiny with bling. Thanks.

Have you seen the gallory for purple cakes?
Also really any cake can be turned into those colors so I'd go for more of what techinques she is looking for than just the color scheme myself.
She wants a pearl sheen. Can I use PME pearl spray over lilac and dark purple or will it change the color? Thanks TexasSugar. She is a visual type of person so I was hoping someone had some pictures for her to look at. Didn't really see anything that jumps out at me in the gallery. Thank you for the link.
Forgot to add that she doesn't like fondant. She calls it tar so the cakes will have to be butter cream.
If she doesn't want fondant you're not going to get the same shiny effect on buttercream. You could add it using fondant or modeling chocolate accents with the pearl dusts on that.

Sorry to disagree, but I don't use fonant except for accents....... pearl spray or super dust does VERY well on crusted butter cream.........
Whenever I use it on crusting buttercream it doesn't do nearly as well as when you use fondant. Unless you use a ton of it, which throws the taste of the icing off. there's a night and day difference between how it looks on buttercream and how it looks on fondant. And the chocolate looks better than fondant when you brush it with dry dust, too, if that adds to the issue!
Well, looks like we will have to agree to disagree...... Just stating MY experience with it
