Couple Of Questions About Rhinestone Ribbon
Decorating By mommachris Updated 19 Jan 2012 , 1:43pm by msthang1224
I've been asked to do a cake with a lovely rhinestone ribbon ( super bling!) on a couple of the layers.
Did a cursory look on-line and saw there is a huge range of prices.
So, I'm looking for recommendations for sites that my fellow bakers have found to provide 'nice' but not break the bank supplies.
It's a bit overwhelming how many companies carry this stuff.
So, who do you buy from?
Also if you wish to pass on any tips for clean application to buttercream. I planned on backing it with clear tape so it's not right in the icing.
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
Amazon has a ton of them for sale ranging from $11 and up. try there and see if they have what your looking for.
Also, I wouldnt use tape of the back only bc the tape (even though its not the sticky side) will touch yr buttercream and make it non-edible. JMHO
I would put either a plastic wrap/saran wrap or parchment backing on the band so it will be edible.

There are "sugar rhinestones" -- see

I believe the whole thing is food safe.
Hi shanter
Those are cool but I dont think they are food safe. I know its listed under "sugar diamonds & Gems" but, i dont think so. I could be wrong.
Maybe Mommachris can contact them to see if it is in fact edible.
No, those ribbons are not edible. I have purchased them and they need to have some sort of backing in order to make them food safe, or they can be sanitized, but they are definitely not sugar or edible.
They are 9.95 for a yard that is 4.5" wide at cal java international <== all together. Their website says to gently wash with water and a little dish soap and dry well then apply to the cake. Not edible but it is plastic......
They have different varieties of rhinestone ribbon at Joanns, & you can use their coupons on them. Using a 40% off I got enough for a double band around an 8" round for ~$5.
Thanks everyone for the replies.
I'm excited about this cake..she's a pretty modern girly-type bride.
Love the cake she picked out. Now to go buy some supplies.
