I had this idea to form a marshmallow into a ball to make a body and had no idea if it would hold up or even work.I want to make an owl body out of marshmallow and then cover in icing or . Will that work?

Marshmallow is very soft, even if you could get it to form in a ball it would squish/deflate under icing due to the weight and moisture.
However, if you could form it into a ball (I would think you would need some kind of mold to make that happen), covering in a shell of chocolate might help it hold it's shape, then you could ice the chocolate.

Thank you. So if I just carve a body from cake would that be better than any other medium? I have never done anything like this. I'm just getting into the bigger stuff. I carved my first cake a few weeks ago and it wasn't much but it freaked me out a bit. Any help you could offer I would greatly appreciate.

That helps me a lot. I think I like the rice crispy idea. I was going to use a 6 inch layer cake and cut it into a ball. I could sculpt that easier than cake.
