I just made a white chocolate ganache frosted cake with fondant on top. It is two tiers, about 3 inches high each layer. It weighs a ton!! Is it the way I make the cake or do cakes just weight a lot? I make children's cakes and cakes with SMBC and they are lighter. Just making sure cakes genuinely are heavy.

I'm always amazed by how much cakes weigh...

SMBC is much lighter than ganache & fondant. But still, once you get a couple tiers going... The weight starts to add up fast!

Yup...I am always amazed at how heavy cakes are when I'm done! Even the single tier ones, once they are torted, filled, iced & covered with fondant AND then decor is added weigh a ton+!
