Will sparkling sugar dissolve on buttercream?

I have cupcakes to make for this weekend. They will have SMBC swirls, and I would like to sprinkle them with sparkling sugar. If I decorate and add the sugar Saturday, will it dissolve before they can be served on Sunday?

Do you have a picture or a link of the sparkling sugar you are talking about?

I'm pretty sure it does NOT desolve, and that is why I don't use it...... when I think butter CREAM, I want smooth and creamy not biting down on something crunchie....... for sparkle, I use edible glitter, or shake on a little disco dust.......

I would guess if it isn't in an airtight container or in the fridge it would probably be fine. If it is in an airtight container or in the fridge you will probably have moisture from the buttercream disolving it.

If you have some buttercream made up, why not try it out. Spread some out on a piece of wax paper and top it with a little bit of the sugar to see what it does.

Yes, it does dissolve if it's in an airtight container.

FYI disco dust is NOT edible.

I think I have some SMBC in the freezer I can pull out to try it on. They won't be in an airtight container, just a cardboard cupcake box for 24 hours so hopefully I can sprinkle them on Saturday and have them ready to go for Sunday!

I do sparkling sugar on my IMBC and American buttercream all the time. I ice, coat with sugar, chill in fridge, pull and wrap with plastic wrap and put it back in the fridge. Just fine for me!
Yes, it will be crunchy, but it's pretty!!!!
