For those of you that sell at farmers markets...

Since Georgia hasn't passed the cottage food law, and doesn't look like it will in the near future, I am trying to find a way to still do some of what I love. I can sell cakes, pies, cookies, breads, etc at the local farmer's market as long as they are individually packaged with ingredient list (common names), net weight, and contact information. I passed at the opportunity last year because it seemed so stressful making all the labels, etc. This year, I think I'm going to go for it. I have done craft shows in the past (before I started hobby baking) as a way to earn some extra cash, so I have the tent, tables, etc. I have no idea how to display my goods. Does anyone have a picture they wouldn't mind sharing of table setup, display, etc? I'm a very visual person and love to have multiple levels of things to look at in a booth rather than just have cupcake boxes sitting on a covered table. TIA!

I don't have any pictures handy, but think of it as a window display. Stand outside your table and look in. Sturdy boxes (wooden, plastic, strong cardboard, etc) in various heigths, flipped upside down and covered or draped with tablecloths or fabric. Decorative trays. High on the table ends and back of table going lower as you display toward the front of the table. Leave the middle low (back and front) if you are going to have to reach over your items for payment, etc. If you can, have a separate table for checking out. You will have to walk around to the front of your table to restock, move items around to fill in empty spaces, etc. If you have business cards, cordinate the tablecloths and fabric to match, or go with the season, Just make it fun. I'm sure there are plenty of people here that will share photos, I just can't right now. Good Luck

I have done the Farmer's Market the past few years and have a very simple but organized display. I hopefully can get the picture to attach! I have matching tablecloths, use cupcake/cake boxes from big river packaging and have little "number holders" that are typically found in restaurants on tables to put the variety of cupcake on a card and then in the holder. I also have left room for a small binder with some of my work in it, business cards and prices in the middle. I hope this helps!

Thanks for posting that photo Adamsmom. We are starting our first market season soon and wondered if you or anyone else had some additional tips. One thing we are concerned about is sweating/condensation. Packaged foods outdoors tend to build condensation, so I'm wondering how everyone tackles that problem. Do you see that problem with the individual cupcake boxes you use? What about individually packaged cookies or breads?

What about you SweetDreamsBoutique, did you have a successful outdoor run?

I'll give reports back in a few weeks when we are up and going outside!

Glad to see this post. I am thinking about doing a farmer's market and am still on the fence about it. I worry about the heat come this summer and since I don't have a store front I worry about the extra product that might be left over at the end of the day. I know that it is all based on the area and just trial and error. I have to research all the local ones around me and hopefully pick the best option.
