icon_surprised.gif So, I just got off the phone with a bride who has an incredibly amazing icon_confused.gif idea for a wedding cake in June. After many compliments from her about my work (was she really looking at mine?) and us going back and forth for a while, I asked about a budget for this "amazing" cake. icon_surprised.gif Where do people get their numbers!!!???

For somewhere between 50 to 100 dollars she and groom would like a wedding cake to feed no more than 60. It needs to look like a pink roasted pig, apple in mouth, veil on head, you get the idea. Its body, not including head, needs to be the length of a large loaf of bread. The cake inside needs to be maple flavored, BUT look like bacon when cut. Between the layers of cake should be maple buttercream with pieces of cooked bacon throughout.

Now I have to admit, it sounds oddly adorable. Delicious? I don't know. But for less than $100?!!!!!!!
I don't think so!

Oh and she needs sugar free cuppies to go with it for her cake cutting. She can't eat this dream cake. [/i]

Sorry, it took me a while to respond to this post.

I was laughing so hard while reading it I cried, got makeup in my eyes, cried some more, wiped it off, flushed eyes with water while still laughing-crying, so now I think I am ok.

WHAT??? That is all I have. icon_surprised.gif

Too funny! I swear some people are smoking dope, or used to and it has made them lose a lot of their brain cells. I had a person I spoke with that I gave her some ideas of what I do and the size of my cupcakes (king sized).At a later date she called me for an order of 120 cupcakes and when I asked her budget she said $60.00 to $75.00! Are you kidding me???? The grocery store charges more than that. Geesh, make your own!

I bet it would look cute but honestly it sounds revolting, but I don't eat pork so there you go. $50 huh? Good luck with that. Did you give her a reality check? How'd she take it?

I was reading a cupcake flavor topic in another thread. Apparently Maple Bacon is a real flavor and really popular with the men-folk. icon_confused.gif Still can't wrap my head around it, but I guess when I think about pancakes and bacon, and maple syrup touching the bacon... not really bad, I'll have to try it some day!

As for the pricing, you know if I'm honest with myself.. If I'd never found this forum a few months ago and got hooked on cake decorating, I'd think 80 dollars would be do-able for a loaf sized carved cake. icon_redface.gif I still twitch when I think about costs, my brain says "DOES NOT COMPUTE" and I feel like I'm doing it all wrong. icon_surprised.gif

I am glad I am not the only one that fell out. She wanted a number that she said she wouldn't hold me to, but if I could just give her a guess at the pricing. I had trouble, but finally through out at least $5 per serving. I did tell her I had no idea on the bacon because right now I have seen it around $8/pound, and it's going to take a lot of fried bacon to get as much as she seems to want. That stuff shrinks! Bacos anyone????

Now I wish I had tossed out a much larger number. She must have gotten engaged at Christmas. She, the groom and all parents are to meet tonight to work on a wedding budget, but I know it isn't going to be high according to her. Once upon a time I too was a bride of a "cheap" wedding and the cake isn't where I chose to drop a lot of money. Venue, photography, dress in that order. I made the cake. The outcome is the same if it's a courthouse or $100,000 event. And I am still madly in love with him!

They want the body to be the length of a large loaf of bread, but she wanted me to understand that they still want it as wide and high as needed to keep it proportional. Pretty big pig cake for 60 when you think about it. Plus there is still the head. Which is fairly large. She wants the head to be as long as half the body's length. I don't think pig heads are as big as half their body, but maybe the cartoony ones are. Head (pun!) shaking......
