hi everyone ,
I will come to houston next month for a 25 days , my husband has a work there , i like cake decorating i've done some at home , at first i searched cake decorating classes , but it seems to be pretty expensive , a friend of mine who came to america( philadephia) some years ago found a job in a bakery ( she didn't have any work visa ) she was working normaly ,and she learned a lot of thing related to cake decorating , so i want to know if someone know if i can find a bakery who will accept me to do a little training
knowing that i've done before some cupcakes ,with fondant i made : a barbie cake , car cake , a purse cake ,
my hasband will work all the day so i'll be free all the time .
I did a training at the international hotel school at algeria ,i will have my diploma soon , it's related to french pastery , i also did some training in a pastry where i made macaroon ( i'm pretty good )
hope that some one will answer me , plus i don't know anybody there ,
Hi besma,
I have worked in many bakeries and have to say that they are all different. Most bakeries though want someone who has the skills already. Which I understand because cake decorating in a bakery is all about speed. The faster the cakes are decorated the higher the bakery's profit. But, you said you've been going to pastry school, so that will definitely be a plus. This might sound funny, but if it's possible, I would bake some cakes and actually practice decorating them. Every interview I have experienced at a bakery involved decorating a cake. They are watching for speed and neatness. I don't mean in any way to dissuade you from applying. Definitely apply.
Hope this helped.
Chris
