Hi CC bakers - hoping you can help and I hope this makes sense. I'm hoping to transport a 3 teir wedding cake - i intend to assemble the cake when I get there so I will transport the layers seperatly. I hope to place them into cardboard cake boxes.

My question is this - if my tiers are all placed on cake boards that are the same size at the cakes, and therefore there is no board exposed at the base of the cakes, how can I stop the sides of the cakes from hitting the sides of the boxes if they happen to slide about during transport? I want one of my layers to be buttercream, but I'm worried that if the cake and board are flush with each other, there won't be anything to stop the cake from smashing up against the side of the box.

How can I prevent this?

Many thanks

You can stick it to a temporary separator plate or cake circle that is larger (same size as the box), and/or use a thin piece of foam or non-skid mat in the bottom of the box.
