I've been asked to do a 9x13 or 10 inch round Victorian cake for a 15 yr old...She wants roses and lots of flowers...

So what is considered a Victorian cake?? Anyone have any favorite pics they can post...colors you suggest?Any other embellishments besides BC roses,flowers etc...

I know this may sound a bit out there but she doesn't mean like a Steampunk cake does she? As it is sometimes described as victorian. That's what springs to my mind when you say 15 year old & victorian theme.

I don't think it is steampunk..I have seen a few weddings done like that..

Steampunk is what the technology during the Victorian era is called sometimes and you do see that style in cakes. I assume you mean an actual Victorian style cake from that era, correct?

Well then I would go with the lambeth style with lots of flowers. That's what they looked like in the Victorian era.

When I think Victorian I think pink/light mauve; ruffles; roses; maybe some corneilli and just overall very feminine.

When I think of things that matter to a 15yr old girl (like clothes and makeup) and Victorian elements, I think of dresses with bustles, red velvet, deep red roses and delicate pastel flowers too, gold gilding, ornate hairbrushes, mirrors and perfume bottles, lace handkerchiefs, lace up ankle boots, big hats, cameo style chokers, ornate perfume bottles, hair combs, tiny silk purses and hand fans

If it were me, I would try to do a sheet cake that looks like a marble vanity top with some gold ornate piping on the corners and then I would do items laying/sitting on that top like a fancy hand fan on top, maybe a cameo choker, a pretty hand mirror (mirror side down of course), a perfume bottle or maybe a pretty hair comb or lace handkerchief

Romantic ? nostalgic ? may be.. Victorian ? no ..

A real Victorian cake is decorated with masses of Royal Icing, Gumpaste and Pastillage .. Very hard icing .. Perhaps not what your client would want ..

I had the same thoughts as Kakeladi for a 15yo - roses, ruffles, cameo, scrolls/piping and gold highlights. Perhaps a girly Victorian hat box style cake?

Gold, pinks, pastel blues and greens, peach colors. Roses and flowers of all sizes and colors. Definitely Lambeth decorating, but you would have to charge a lot for that.

I would do the 10" round, because that gives you a lot of side space to work with. I would do rose swags (pink roses and maybe gold painted along the edge of the petals) and an intricate border around the top and bottom. Then I would do a GP flower arrangement at the top. Hell, throw a few gold cherubs in for good measure.

Thanks everyone...I have lots of ideas now let's see if I can put some on this cake..Sometimes I have great vision and then the results are less than pleasing...LOL

I just went downstairs and dug through my chocolate molds and found a few cool ones with Baroques and cherobs etc..My mom must have given me these when she cleaned out her cake decorating stuff.I'm going to paint these in gold and add to the cake along with this pic I plan to print off on vellum..For looks only as I ditched my EI printer last year when it clogged..
