I have always made it from scratch but saw several recipes using a yellow cake mix and adding fruit...has anyone ever tried it using the cake mix base and how do they compare...thanks.

Hummingbird cake - scratch vs cake mix starter?

Please noone shout at me for saying this BUT i have used one box mix before and never again. It tasted aweful compared to my scratch cakes, my kids wouldnt even eat it. It was apperently the chocolate betty crocker one. All i can say is its great for kids who just want to play around at baking with their friends but i would never use a box mix for a order. I personally found the texture all wrong too. If your good at scratch cakes then stick to them, saves any disapointment.
instead of following a box mix recipe use your trusted recipe and just stick fruit in that until i looks and feels right. thats what i do and works every time
