Raspberry cupcake HELP!

I have a recipe for a raspberry cupcake that I'm making for my sister-in-law's b-day. But I'm a bit confused about the process. The recipe book that I have, gives you instruction on how to modify their "white" cupcake recipe to make it taste like rasberry. So here's my problem: The white cupcake recipe call for the following;

2 3/4 cups flour
3 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
3/4 shortening or butter
1 2/3 cups sugar
5 egg whites
2 1/2 tsp vanilla and
1 1/4 cup of milk

Now, for the recipe with raspberries, the only thing it tells you is, to make cupcakes as directed except, use 1 cup of milk and lightly mash raspberries with fork and fold into the batter.

Now do I have to substitute the vanilla and other amount of milk for these 2 modifications? Because the buttercream recipe states to replace the vanilla and milk with raspberry juice. So do I do the same with the recipe for the cupcakes, because it doesn't say that?

Instructions:
1. to make cupcakes as directed except, use 1 cup of milk [ 1 1/4 cup originally]
2. lightly mash raspberries with fork and fold into the batter

What you are doing:
1 1/4 cup milk [basic recipe] = 1 c milk plus lightly mashed berries*[amount is equivalent to 1/4 liquid]

*berries are mostly liquid

The cupcake directions says nothing about changing the vanilla - so don't !... The buttercream has it's separate instrucions ..

Once you have the feel for the recipe .. then you can tweak it ..

Yes, use 1c milk + berries instead of 1 1/4c milk
