Does anybody pour fondant over their cupcakes??

I just got an order for 75 mini cupcakes and they want them covered in fondant. I was thinking of using a poured fondant recipe and just pouring the fondant over top of each mini cupcake?? I've worked a lot with fondant but not the poured type with mini cupcakes before. Do you think this would work and somewhat have the same effect as rolling out fondant, cutting out small circles and applying to each cupcakes? Thanks in advance icon_smile.gif

I would think rolling out fondant and cutting out circles would be easier, quicker, and less messy. I personally have never worked with poured fondant though- but the other way seems easier...
I've learned so much from my mistakes..... I'm thinking of making a few more!

I recently looked up poured fondant on you tube and the poster warmed mmf in the microwave, added water to thin, and dipped the cupcake tops in mmf. I haven't gotten around to trying it yet, but am interested in hearing about others.

I tried that before and ended up with a lot of garbage. I'll look for the video though, I tried it about four years ago and there was no video then.

Poured fondant doesn't taste very good, in my opinion. I'd go with rolled fondant...just use a round tip to give every cupcake a small glob of buttercream filling, and put the fondant on top of the cupcake. If you have a circle cutter the right size, it will go very fast.

Thanks for all the replies icon_smile.gif I did end up trying the poured fondant but after about 20 minutes it seemed like me, the floor and a good portion of the table had poured fondant everywhere! Might have to practice this a few more times.... Anyways, in end I just used the regular rolled fondant and took a circular cookie cutter to cut out the circles and it worked much better. Thank again for the tips!

I use marshmallows fondant on cupcakes all the time. Just cut circles out of mmf, brush a little burrercreme on the backs of the mmf. It's that easy.
