Help With Getting A Gumpaste Figure To Stand Up
Decorating By dawnybird Updated 1 Jan 2012 , 11:47pm by dawnybird
Hi. I've made a few (actually only 2!) people figures, but I want to do a cake with a man standing in his garden for my brother. Any tips on how to get a figurine to hold up its own weight and remain in the standing position. I could possibly put a rake or hoe or something to help balance him. Any advice would be very appreciated. It's for his 73rd birthday and I want it to be special.
Thanks guys!

when I do something like this I would put a dowel thru a leg of the figurine so that it would have a portion of the dowel in the leg, and a portion of the dowel that would be inserted into the cake. I would not travel with the person on top of the cake but would put the doel and person on where ever I am going to serve the cake I sometimes have the dowel dipped into gum paste glue before inserted into the person to help bu sometime I dont do that the person isnt permently stuck to the dowel.
Hi,
Recently I bought a paket of drinking straws and a packet of bamboo food skewers, I cut a bamboo stick and then pushed it down a drinking straw, that created a dowel to connect the head of a cake to the body.
Otherwise I have used ready made thin chocolate bisquit sticks which you can buy, they made an edible option and have supported figures for me.
