Added Wrong ingredient to recipe, can we salvage the mix

Thread Starter
my daughter wanted to make some cupcakes and did not pay attention to well to the ingredient she was suppose to add.
she added 2 1/2 tsp. of BAKING SODA instead.. Can she save the dry ingredients or do we have to throw it away?

She meant to use baking powder? Baking soda has more than twice the leavening power of baking powder. Plus, it's used with acidic ingredients while baking powder is used with alkaline ingredients. Either post the recipe so we can make suggestions, or throw it out and start again. Sorry.

Baking powder = baking soda+an acid like cream of tartar. If this indeed the mistake that was made, you can google the ratio of acid you would need to add to make the baking soda "into" baking powder, then scale your recipe up to match the now added amount of baking powder and then proceed.

Wish I read this sooner so I could help. Hopefully it worked out for you! I hate throwing things away
