Hi. I have been on here for years lurking and post sometimes, but I am hoping someone can help me. My sister and I have been running a licensed home bakery in Elizabethtown, (Lancaster County) Pa for quite some time and would eventually like to have our own bakery. we have all the equpment that we got at a really great deal, but at this time it is all sitting in my garage. I think the first step for us should be to open just a retail space so people can actually come see and purchase while still using our home bakery to make the product. The problem is I cant figure out what I would need to do legally as far as licensing, etc to just have a retail space. Everything seems to be geared to the bakery licensing and we dont need that.

Does anyone know what I need to do to just have a space that sells the packaged product?

Thanks so much! icon_smile.gif

I know in WA our Cottage law does not allow wholesale so you might want to make sure that this would not fall under that, it may not since you are doing the selling. I think because it is dealing with food your local health department should be able to tell you the requirements. If nothing else point you in the direction you can go. You might find most of your home bakery items will cover the retail location! Good luck.

Yes, talk with your county health department to ask about licensing a non-production retail store. Also, talk with your current inspector; they should be able to give you an answer.
