I used flower nails in both my 9in rounds today and then totally forgot to take them out as they cooled, wrapped in saran wrap, in my fridge. I only realized they were in there after I touched the top to feel if they were cold enough and got poked. Are they still safe to eat after that metal cooled down in the cakes? I'm guessing so, but I'm also super paranoid about stuff like that.
If the nails are just food-safe metal made specifically for contact with edibles, and there is no rust or breakdown on them, then cooling them in your cake is fine.
