Hey Everyone,

I have been asked to do a barbie cake and have never done one. I have using the flat barbie pan, but they want the barbie in the cake. Can someone give me some advice on how to do this? Do I use a full body barbie, or just take the top part off the barbie or what do you do? Sorry if these seem like dumb questions. Then what pan do you use for the bottom of the dress?

Thanks for any advice!

Kel

If you are talking about a 3D Barbie cake then you will need the Wilton Wondermold cakepan.I always add a 8 inch round underneath because a regular sized Barbie doll standing up is too tall and the extra 8 inch underneath will make it proportional.Others have baked the skirt in a oven safe bowl but really it's easier to buy the pan.

Wilton has a standup doll pan or you can use a deep bowl that is ovensafe to cook cake in. As for the doll, they have half dolls at most places that sell cake decorating supplies. The wilton cake pan is call "The classic wonder mold".
Hope this helps

I just made one and I used a bundt pan. I needed to add a 9" cake to the bottom in order for it to be the correct height. As i shaved the top to give it a more rounded shape, I used those pieces to fill in and build up the hole towards her waist. Worked perfect!

I have the wonder mold pan and I usually use that for Barbie cakes but I also have an oven-safe pyrex measuring bowl that I sometimes use. Just remember to put in a large flower nail in the bottom to help it cook the middle of the cake. You'll need to put a round cake for the bottom layer regardless of which one you use or your skirt will be way too short. For the doll, I like to use the whole doll so the little girl will be able to have it to play with. I save the clothes and give them to the customer when I deliver the cake. You can just jam the doll into the cake but I like to scoop out the center a bit and make a hole for the Barbie to go into so that the cake doesn't split. If the Barbie is still too tall even with the round layer, no worries. Just fashion the dress with a waist band or bow or something that makes it look like you did it that way on purpose. icon_smile.gif That's my specialty icon_biggrin.gif Hope this helps!

I did a barbie pan with 4'in rounds! =) I used 5, baked 6 "just in case" and I shaved the edges a little to get the nice bell shape that I wanted! If you check out my photos, its my ONLY barbie cake...=)

Like countrycaker, I use a pyrex measuring cup. I didn't want to buy a pan I might use only once. (I'm a hobby baker, and this was for my great-niece.) I used a 6 and 8 inch under the shaped cake and trimmed them to the skirt shape that I needed.
I used the whole doll with the bottom part that's stuck in the cake wrapped in plastic wrap. That way my niece had a toy when the cake was eaten.
